Ruth Gloria Johnson
Ruth Gloria Johnson, age 91, of Hermantown, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was born in Duluth, Minnesota, to parents Eric and Olga Skoglund on August 8, 1928. She married the love of her life, Robert Allan Johnson on October 6, 1951. They enjoyed 58 years of cherished marriage.
Ruth and Bob spent their first four years of marriage traveling around the country for work with their travel trailer, up until they had their second daughter. Soon after, they built a home in Hermantown, Minnesota where they raised five children and welcomed many grandchildren. Their love of travel never ceased, taking them from Alaska to Norway and many destinations in between.
Music was always an integral part of Ruth’s life. Growing up she and her family enjoyed playing many types of instruments together. Ruth’s favorite and most prized, was her accordion. Through the years, she shared her gift by performing at music festivals and senior centers, always happy to take a request. Ruth also loved dancing, roller skating, gardening and enjoying the outdoors, most of all fishing. You could find her on the dock or aboard a boat, always wearing a hat and a smile.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Johnson; sisters, Lorraine Lindstrand and Mary Ann Norgren; and brothers, Arne Skoglund and Ralph Skoglund.
Ruth will be sadly missed by her five children, Diana (Dale) Larson, Cynthia (Dale) Veech, Robert (Shelly) Johnson, Carolyn (James) Petruga, and Randal (Kelly Jo) Johnson; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and extended family. Ruth’s greatest pride and joy was family.
Due to these unprecedented times, a celebration of life will be held this summer on Saturday, August 8, 2020, what would have been Ruth’s 92nd birthday, at Salem Lutheran Church in Hermantown, Minnesota. Visitation at 11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m.
The family would also like to acknowledge the compassionate care Ruth received while residing at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living and its facilities.
We wish to conclude with a request to continue sharing Ruth’s wealth of humor, her desire to entertain, and her bountiful love of those around her.
