Ronald R. Block

Ronald R. Block, 70, a Balsam area resident since 1979, died Sunday, October 20, 2019 in the Bigfork Valley Hospital.

Born March 26, 1949, in Deer River, he was the son of Philip M. and Luella L. (Holloway) Block. Ron was a 1967 graduate of Hibbing High School, was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and was a Vietnam War Veteran serving in the U. S. Army from 1967 until 1971. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church of Bigfork, the Knights of Columbus, the Farm Bureau Assn., the Itasca County Fair Board, the Minnesota Deer Breeders Assn., and the United Steel Workers. Ron and Valeria “Peachy” Latimer were married on August 28, 1972 in Hibbing. Following Peachy’s death in 1988, Ron and Katherine Poncelet were married on October 25, 1989 in Coleraine.

His father, Philip Block and his first wife Peachy preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; his mother, Luella; children, John “Bucky” (Vicky) Latimer, Tom “Wally” (Kathy) Latimer, Anne “Bob” (Keith) Auel, Laura “Tina” (Eric) Olson, William “Toger” (Carolyn) Latimer, Andrew “Bozie” Latimer, Sabrina “Bratwina” (Devin) Price, and Darrin (Sarah) King; 18 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; three Goddaughters; brothers, Donald (Sharona) Block and Todd (Ann) Block; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 PM, Thursday October 24, 2019, with a prayer service at 4:00 PM, in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine. Visitation will continue from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 25, 2019 in the Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Bigfork.
