Richard L. Hurin

Richard L. Hurin, 78, of Superior died Tuesday May 5, 2020 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth with his wife Sandy by his side.
Richard was born in Superior on April 9, 1942 the son of Vila (Beetcher) and Frank Hurin. He married Sandra (Gilbertson) Pond on Sept. 8, 1995 and they celebrated 25 years of marriage.
He served his country enlisting in the US Navy and toured the Mediterranean while at Sea. He was honorably discharged as a Radio Man Third Class. He graduated with a bachelorās degree from UWS. He then worked as a Senior Claims Adjuster for Famers Insurance for 30 years.
Richard was an avid model builder and scratch-built large scale ships with his sons and sailed them at the cabin where he spent every summer boating and lounging with his family. He enjoyed studying astronomy, physics and watching the stars and planets. He loved cats, dogs, and martinis. Richard enjoyed tennis with his father and daughter and was a pro at adjusting his golf score. He enjoyed sitting around the campfire listening to Johnny Cash with his friends and family. He was a funny guy with a great sense of humor who was always laughing and will be deeply missed by those close to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard is survived by his wife Sandy; children Rick (Amanda) Hurin of Superior, Sharrilyn (Jonas) Helgertz of St. Paul, and Robert (Courtney) Hurin of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Jameson, Lydia and Willa; step-children, Stephanie (Brian) McKnight of Idaho and James Pond of Dallas; step-grandchildren, Emma, Charlie and Joe; brother, Gary (Judy) Hurin of Wascott; sister, Patricia āPattyā Little of Solon Springs; and the mother of his children, Sharon Johnson.
Due to COVID-19 and the Governorās mandate no public funeral services will be held at this time. A private family graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery Veteranās Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
