Mary Halstead

Mary Halstead, 84, lost a brief battle with cancer and passed away with her children at her side on Thursday, October 13th.

Mary was born in Duluth on September 14, 1938, to George and Yvonne Vosika. She graduated from Duluth Cathedral in 1956. She spent the majority of her working career as an executive secretary at UMD.

Mary enjoyed playing games with her family and friends. She was a very competitive game player who won more times than she lost. She was an excellent cook and an avid reader.  Mary loved her family, her cabin on Spring Lake and her cats.

Mary is survived by her children Stephanie Fehringer (Bruce), Tracy Rowe (David), Jeffrey Halstead (Carol) and David Halstead (Patricia);  grandchildren, Sam, Ben, Valerie (Budgey), Tim, Tad, Zane, Alex, Carla (Ayrton), Jay and Nico; great grandson Cash; brother Steve Vosika (Pat) and sister-in-law Virginia Vosika.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother David Vosika.

Mary will be missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service for Mary will be at St. Elizabeth Church in Duluth on Friday, October 28 at 11 am. (Address 610 99th Ave. West.) Visitation is at 10 am and a luncheon in Mary’s memory will follow the service in the church hall.
