Leigh Ann Ojard

Leigh Ann Ojard, a resident of Reynolds Lake Oconee, GA passed away on February 4, 2022, at Piedmont Hospital in Athens, GA after emergency surgery. Leigh Ann was born October 31, 1948 in Duluth, MN and grew up in Proctor and Virginia, MN and Anaheim, CA. She had a career at the DM&IR Railway but ended it to devote all of her energies to create a warm and nurturing home for her family. As her husband Adolph grew his career, their family moved  from Duluth, to Erie and Pittsburgh PA, Mobile, AL and back to Duluth until they retired in Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA.

If you knew Leigh Ann, you admired her for her supportive friendship, witty commentary, and fabulous from scratch foods. She had a boundless love and loyalty to her family making her an enthusiastic grandmother to her five grandchildren. Her sarcasm, wittiness and sense of humor can definitely be seen in her granddaughters. She was a wonderful and thoughtful giver of gifts and lover of all things Doberman.

She is preceded in death by her father Richard Goerts, mother Lola Poppenberg Goerts, husband Adolph, daughter Berit Leigh, and beloved brother-in-law William “Bill” Sjoberg. She is survived by her daughters Courtenay (Scott) Weller of Harrisburg, PA and Gretchen (Peter) Vikingson of Greensboro, GA. She lived fiercely for her five amazing grandchildren Emma, Mason and Sadie Mae Weller, and Bergen and Barrett Vikingson. She is also survived by her siblings Linda (Bill) Sjoberg, Lana (Kip) Neubauer, Holly Goerts, and Rick (Jan) Goerts.

Cremation arranged by McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro, GA.

A memorial and celebration of life for both Leigh Ann and Adolph will be held at Knife River Lutheran Church on Sunday, July 10 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Oconee Regional Humane Society www.orhspets.org/donate
