JoAnn “Queenie Pierce

JoAnn “Queenie” Pierce, 81 of Duluth, passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with lung cancer on September 15th, 2022. JoAnn was born in Duluth to John and Florence Miller on December 13th, 1940.

She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1959 where she met the love of her life Bill, and they were married for 58 blissful years. She became the rock of her family and continued to be the glue that held her family together. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, knitting, gardening, cooking for her family and canning the best world class pickles, doing scratch offs while watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Judge Judy, and spending time with her family. Above all, she loved being a grandma.

For those that knew JoAnn knew her by her infectious smile and generous heart. She would light up the local grocery store every time she went in for her daily trips. She became a memorable icon at every event she went to of her granddaughters as she never missed an opportunity to support her. She was a favorite of the neighborhood and loved to talk to anyone and always had the biggest smile on her face when meeting someone new.

The family would like to thank St. Luke’s oncology department for their dedicated service.

She is survived by her two strong and supportive children, Ted, and Colleen, who were there for her day in and day out; her beloved granddaughter, Emily and her husband, Andy, who she adored; and her favorite niece, Michelle.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill with whom she is now reunited where their devoted love story will forever continue on.

A private, small service will be held at a later date with family per JoAnn’s final wishes. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
