Richard Lee Brander

Richard Lee “Dick” Brander

Richard Brander passed away December 12, 2020 in Queen Creek Arizona of natural causes surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Duluth Minnesota November 27, 1940 to Blanche (1906-1988) and Henry Brander (1902-1949).

Richard graduated from Duluth East High School in 1959. After High School Richard began his long career working for Inland Steel on the iron ore boats that navigate the Great Lakes. He spent the majority of his career on the ships Edward L. Ryerson and Joseph L. Block. In 1975 he was out on Lake Superior when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. A bad fall while on the boats nearly took his life, even though he had a permanent ankle injury, he continued to work many years before he retired.

When Richard wasn’t on the lakes at work, he spent the majority of his time in Phoenix which kept him close to the race and show car scene which he loved passionately. After retiring from Inland Steel, he moved to Chandler Arizona full time.

He loved his family, pets, friends, car and boat. He had a big heart and was a character not easily forgotten. He always had a great story or joke to tell. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Richard is survived by his Daughter Michelle of Indiana, Godson Brandon of Texas, the Yancer Family of Arizona and Sister Barbara.
