Clifford E. Santa, 82, of Duluth, MN, Army Veteran, died peacefully Sept. 19, 2019. He is survived by his wife and adventure partner of 42 years Betty Anne (Paré) Santa, 4 daughters, stepdaughter and stepson; Becky (Steve) Wilk of Crystal, MN, Caroline (Paul) Holmes of Andover, MN, Adele (Don Daniel) VanDell of Duluth, MN, Jennifer (Nate) Hochmayr of Hood River, OR, stepdaughter Deborah (Clay) Diggins of Afton, MN, stepson Peter (Karen) Robinet of St. Joseph, MN, a brother Richard (Cathie) Santa of Lake Winnebago, MO, foreign exchange daughter Erna from Slovenia. Was predeceased by younger brother Ken and parents Muriel (Ross) and Charles Santa. He has 7 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Born in Grand Rapids, MN, he was a commercial pilot and instructor, volunteering to create new pilots through the Young Eagles program. worked for the airlines, established/owned Duluth Air Taxi Service. Was a volunteer and pilot sponsor of the PBY in the Commemorative Air Force. He loved sailing, skiing, scuba diving, skydiving, golf, travel, cribbage, euchre, saunas, woodworking including Intarsia and scrollsaw work, was a volunteer at Riding Instruction for Disabled Equestrians, was an avid hunter and fisherman and co-owned/operated a resort with his wife on Cliff Lake, Ontario until 2003. He wrote for outdoor magazines and was the author of 2 books based on the Battle of Britain, “The Last Mission, Americans in the RAF” and “Behind Enemy Lines.” Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 15 at Grace Lutheran Church, 5454 Miller Trunk Highway at 11:00 a.m. Lunch to follow.
