Mary Josephine Lowry

Mary Josephine Lowry, 89, of Duluth, died on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020 in her daughter Kathy’s home, with her daughters by her bedside.
Mary was born in Duluth on January 22, 1931 to Mary and Edward Casey. She graduated from Stanbrook Hall in Duluth in 1949. She met the love of her life, Dick, in grade school and they had been together over 74 years. They were married on August 22, 1953 at Holy Rosary Chapel. Mary and Dick raised six kids whom they loved dearly. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. While raising a family in Woodland, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, and playing bridge. In 1968, Mary went to work at the Glass Block for the Christmas season, retiring in 1997. In retirement, she loved volunteering at the St. Mary’s gift shop for 13 years.
In 1985, Mary and Dick built a permanent home on Lake Elora, were they lived for 16 years. In 2001 they moved to Baypoint Apartments on Park Point, and in 2015 to Ecumen Lakeshore Independent Living community, where they enjoyed many friends. Mary also enjoyed spending time with “The Mermaids”.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of over 66 years, who died this June, Richard “Dick” Lowry; parents; brothers, Edward and John; and great-grandson, Benjamin Dallum.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Peter) Nielsen and Nancy (John) Dallum; sons, John (Becky), Bill (Crys), Patrick (Diane), and Michael (Jayne); grandchildren, Marcus (Amanda) Dallum, Timothy (Sarah) Dallum, Allison Dallum, Ian (Hailey) Lowry, Mary (Brett) Erickson, Tressa (Zach) Haataja, Katelyn (Chad) Naze, Daniel Lowry, Molly Lowry, Amie (Kyle) Brower, Torie Mlodozyniec, and Sarah Mlodozyniec; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen Jobin; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Mary’s loving and caring physicians, Dr. Paul A. Jones, Dr. Susan Ash, Dr. Michael Maddy, Dr. Timothy Rich, and their staffs.
Private family service to be held at a later date. Memorials preferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center Auxiliary.
