Margie Agnes Vest

Margie Agnes Vest, 96, of Hermantown, passed away on June 4, 2020 in her home. She had been under the loving care of her daughter, Dorothy Goldspring, and Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospice for 8 months.
Margie was born on Jan. 23, 1924 in Marshalltown, IA, daughter to George D. and Gertrude M. Bridge. She graduated from high school in DeMoines, IA. Margie married James Richard Vest on Sept. 13, 1941 in Georgetown, IN, and celebrated 69 years of marriage until Jim passed away in 2011. They lived in Belle Plaine, IA until moving to Aitkin, MN in 1946. In 1961 they moved to Hermantown, where they resided since. Margie was primarily a dedicated homemaker while raising their five children. She was a wonderful, loving mother and an excellent cook. She did work outside the home at times when not watching grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies included playing Bingo, doing puzzles, quilting, and camping with family and friends. Her favorite campground was Stoney Point on Birch Lake. She and Jim spent many winters at Cedar Key, FL. She absolutely loved those excursions where they acquired many long lasting friends.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; infant son, Charles; granddaughters, Diana Vest Kishel and Jamie Putnam; grandson, Lance Schoepper; brother, Mack Bridge; daughter-in-law, Phoebe Vest; and son-in-law, Ron Mathieu.
Margie is survived by her children, James Jr. (Karen Feld), Edward (Carolyn), Mary Mathieu, Dorothy (John Sirois) Goldspring, and Thomas; grandchildren, Terri (William) Milton, Laura (Pat) McHugh, Christopher (Jody) Vest, Ryan (Ann) Mathieu, Amy Crossland, Macy Goldspring, Samantha Goldspring, Nicole Vest, and Holly (Kash) Ankarlo; grand-son-in-law, Brian Putnam; 21 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren, with another due this summer.
Visitation will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, June 15th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with Service to follow at 1:30 pm. Memorials preferred to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospice at 330 E 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
