Lyle R. Swardstrom
On July 21, 2021, Lyle R. Swardstrom, 82, of Two Harbors, MN passed away at the Solvay Hospice House with his family by his side.
Lyle was born to John and Caroline Swardstrom November 27, 1938, and after graduation joined the National Guard and worked for the DM&IR Railroad, Reserve Mining Company and Lake County retiring in 2001.
Lyle enjoyed outdoor activities including maple syruping and forestry improvement projects. He was an avid athlete and especially enjoyed skiing, running and biking. His true passion was being outdoors whether it was on “the forties” planting trees or spending time with family at the cabin.
Lyle was joined in marriage to his wife Muriel in 1959 and they celebrated 62 years together raising four children, going on family trips out west, making homemade wine and traveling to the Redwoods. He adored his grandchildren and spent time planting trees for them and participating in the fishing opener each year. Lyle gave his endless energy wherever it was needed. He was passionate about doing all he could to make others’ lives easier. He unconditionally loved his family.
Lyle is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack. He is survived by his wife Muriel, daughters Katie (Randy) Lancaster and Jean (Jeff) Vito, sons John (Cheryl) Swardstrom and Jim (Jerri) Swardstrom, sister Carolyn (Phil) Houle, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and his lifelong friend Giles Dalbec.
Lyle’s family wishes to thank Dr. Kelsey Schultz, Dr. Andrew Chiu, Lakeview Memorial Hospital and the amazing staff of the Solvay Hospice House. If desired memorials can be sent to the charity of your choice or by planting a tree.
Per Lyle’s request a private celebration of life is scheduled for his favorite season (spring) where he has requested the family enjoy walleye and beer.
