Jean Ruth Olson

Jean Ruth Olson, 88, of Duluth, passed away peacefully with daughter, Karen by her side on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Ecumen Lakeshore Assisted Living. Jean was born in Ball Bluff Township, MN on October 25, 1932, to Fritz and Mabel Lofgren. She graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1950 and married A. Charles Olson in Duluth on May 11, 1957. She was a member of Kenwood Lutheran Church. Jean worked for many years as a secretary for Charles. She was a kind and caring person, not only to those she knew, but also to those she just met. Jean loved baking, cooking and entertaining with family and friends. Anyone who had one of her brownies knew immediately they had eaten the world’s best. Jean also enjoyed being outside feeding birds, working in her various flower and vegetable gardens, and “cleaning the woods”. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. Jean collected pig figurines, antiques and jokes. Jean was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, A. Charles Olson; a sister, Dorothy Gould; three brothers, Leonard, John and Gilbert Lofgren. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Olson (Chad Blaha) of St. Paul and Karen Olson (Kathy Kiergaard) of Duluth; a son, Eric Olson of Burnsville, MN; two sisters, Anna Broich of Vancouver, WA and Joyce (Harold) Carlson of Bend, OR; seven grandchildren, Madi, Connor, Nathan, Hayden, Zander, Anton and Corbin; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Lofgren and Mildred Lofgren; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Ecumen Lakeshore and Ecumen Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to Jean. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Kenwood Lutheran Church, 2720 Myers Ave Duluth MN 55811. Pastor Jeffrey Holter officiating. Burial in Park Hill Cemetery. Memorials to the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank would be appreciated. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
