James (Fred) Frederick Poe

Fred was born on March 9, 1939 to Mary (Jurisch) and William Poe. He passed away peacefully on Nov. 20th.

Fred graduated from Clover Valley High School and went on to college in Duluth. He graduated from UMD with his teaching degree and then went on to get his master’s. He taught in Verndale, Mn and then for Duluth School District where he spent majority of his career. He enjoyed teaching and continued to sub even after he retired.

Fred married Betty (Johnson) on June 6, 1959. He was an active member of French River Lutheran Church. He loved to travel, sing, camp, and spend time in the outdoors. He was a big kid at heart and was always willing to play. He was always willing to give a helping hand. Fred loved spending time with family and friends. The joke was who loved to talk more Betty or Fred.

Fred is proceeded by the death by his wife Betty, parents in law Alli and Melvin Johnson along with his parents Mary and William Poe.

He is survived by his 5 kids Debi (Dave) Ruberg, James (Amy) Poe, Amy (Erick) Bergerson, Angel (Terry) Johnson, and Heather Poe (Nathan Grooms). He leaves behind a brother Michael Poe, sister-in- law Barb (Alan) McNickol, nieces Kim (Scott) Eckman and Renee (Todd) Andrews. He leaves behind his 16 grandkids, 1 great grandson, 4 great-nephews and 1 great niece. We will miss you, but we know you are happy to be reunited with mom.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, but condolences, if preferred, may be sent to the family at 5580 Ryan Road, Duluth, MN 55804.
