Danna Kathleen Swenson, Age 79, passed away peacefully July 11, surrounded by the family she loved, at St Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

Danna Was born April 23, 1941, in Superior to Mae and Leo Meronek. She attended St Adalbert’s Catholic School, graduated from Superior East High School, and worked as a stenographer at UW Superior.

On June 8, 1963, she married the love of her life William Swenson at St. Adalbert’s Church. The couple moved to Michigan where their daughter Julie was born and then to St. Paul where son Daniel was born. When Bill accepted a faculty position at UW-Superior in 1973, the family returned home.

Danna had a unique and creative perspective on the world. She saw beauty in everyday things and could transform them into gorgeous conversation pieces. Her pies and cakes were the hit of any family gathering, her stained glass added color, light, and beauty to any room. She was an artist who worked in glass, fabric, flour and sugar.

During the last ten years of her life she suffered from kidney disease. However, that did not slow her down. She received excellent care from the outstanding staff at the Superior Fresenius Treatment Center and it gave her another group to shower with treats.

Danna loved life, loved to bake, quilt, garden, and create. She loved Shamrock pizza and Elvis but she loved her family the most and treasured the time they spent together. She will be forever missed and loved by those she left behind.

Danna is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Julie Stolis (Lex), son Dan (Janice), brother Tom Meronek (Barbara), sisters Georgeann Cheney and Teddie Meronek, grandsons Logan and Landan Swenson and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, sisters- and brothers-in-law.

The family is planning a private outdoor celebration of life for relatives and friends at their home; 303 Eighth Ave. East, on August 1, 2020. The service will start at 11:00 AM. Please bring a mask if you plan to attend.
