Charles Karasek

Charles Karasek, 101 of Meadowlands passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020 in the Hummingbird Customized Living. He was born June 11, 1919 in Cicero, Illinois to Franklin and Petronella (Mueller) Karasek. He grew up in Elmer Township. Charles attended Hemphill Diesel School in Chicago. On September 4, 1943 he married Mary Johanek in Hibbing. They made their home in Meadowlands. In September of 1944 Charles enlisted in the Army and served his country during WWII until his discharge in 1946. He returned to Meadowlands where he worked in logging and also owned and operated his own sawmill. Charles was also a school bus driver for 42 years.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, Meadowlands Lodge 361, and Kral-Matha-Peterson VFW Post 3044. He enjoyed playing the accordion and his button box at local dances. He liked playing for anyone that would listen. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his younger years, he was involved in Sokol Gymnastics.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary; son, Gerald; brother, Frank; and sister, Petronella Dyll.
He is survived by one son, Richard (Elizabeth) Karasek of Meadowlands; one daughter, Carol (Eugene) Anderson of Alborn; four grandchildren, Yvonne Miller, Kristin Anderson, Clint Karasek and Matthew Karasek; nine great grandchildren, Elijha, Jonah, Miah, Noah, Dylan, Morgan, Aaron, Isabel and Thaddeus; cousins, Marie Mihelick of Duluth and Rose Serdiuk of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the owners and staff at the Hummingbird Customized Living Facility for their kind and compassionate care of Charles.
Private family services will be held. Burial with Military Honors will be in Meadowlands Cemetery.
