Bruno W. Tomesch Sr.


Bruno W. Tomesch Sr., 84 of Duluth, died Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Bayshore Residence and Rehabilitation. He was born in Gdansk, Poland July 18, 1936 to mother Boleslawa (Sczesna) and stepfather Filip Faryniak. Bruno emigrated to the United States in 1951 from a Displaced Person camp after World War 2. He worked at Super One Foods Miller Hill location. He and his wife Betty had owned and operated Bruno’s Old-World Foods, Murphy’s Bar and Restaurant, and Bruno’s Costume Shop. He opened the costume shop after being “Santa” at Glass Block Toyland and being the Grand Marshal for the Christmas City of the North Parade. He was a member of the Elks Club, Eagle Club and the All-American Club. He attended St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Bruno was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, his son William James, brother Ludwig (Lieselotte) Tomisch, and sister Anna (Jim) Listerud. Bruno is survived by his children: Hazel (Roger) Mosiniak, Warren (Jeannie) Jack, Alice Gibson, Bruno (Dana) Tomesch, Katerina (Ricky) Anderson, Hope (Brian) Doerner; fourteen grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; his sister Sophia (Ernie) Hall, brother Michael Faryniak and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. A special thank you to his special friend John Beihl and all of the staff at Bayshore residence and the staff at the St Croix hospice.

Visitation: 1-2 pm Tuesday, March 16 and immediately following at 2:00 pm Mass of Christen Burial at St. Mary Start of the Sea Catholic church, 325 E. Third St. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
