AnneMarie Makarsky

AnnMarie Makarsky, 57, of Florissant, MO passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020, following a courageous 25-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Superior, WI on May 2, 1963, Ann was the daughter of Elbert Zaun and Marie Zaun. She graduated with honors from the former Central High School in Superior and attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior for a few years before starting x-ray training at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, where she later worked as an x-ray tech in the emergency room. She relocated to Milwaukee, WI, where she worked and trained as a radiation therapist at St. Joseph Hospital and was invited to the Radiation Therapy Super Bowl in Chicago, IL. From there, Ann was recruited by Northwestern University, Illinois, and by the Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. She decided to move to Houston where she worked tirelessly helping cancer patients as a radiation therapist at Houston Methodist Hospital and the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Before becoming a fulltime mom, Ann moved to Missouri where she continued to work part-time and graduated with honors from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. As one of our healthcare heroes, Ann was licensed and treated patients in all four states, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas, and Missouri.

Ann was an active member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Florissant, MO where she enjoyed volunteering in the children’s programs including the annual summer Bible Camp. Ann was blessed with creativity and enjoyed ink stamping, decorating St. Andy’s bulletin board, and cooking. To maintain good physical and mental health, Ann enjoyed yoga, even participating in chair yoga as her abilities declined. Ann loved to travel with both her close and extended families, whether by car or by plane, to many different destinations, including Hawaii, Disney World, Mexico, Curacao, and Ocean City, MD. She equally enjoyed just hanging out on the pontoon boat at her dad’s cabin on Iron Lake. Ann enjoyed life immensely and made the most of each day. Throughout her illness and declining health, Ann remained strong, and her sense of humor never diminished. Ann is survived by her husband Jim and her daughter Julia, her parents Al and Marie, and her sister Kelly Zaun Wentland.

A private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Ann’s honor may be made to the National MS Society, Upper Midwest Chapter, 2829 University Ave. SE, Suite 900, Minneapolis, MN 55414
