Alexander Eglinton Jr.

Alex passed away at the age of 91 on June 19, 2020 due to complications of prostate cancer. Alex was born in 1929 to Alex and Velma Eglinton. He spent his childhood in Detroit. At the age 17 he entered the US Navy and 2 years later was honorably discharged. He started working as a carpenter, a skill set he used his entire life. In his mid 30’s he began a career with the federal government as an estimator and data analyst. He worked for the federal government until his retirement.

In 1972 he married Betsy Lawson Arnold and the two enjoyed a life of canoeing, skiing, long distance biking and traveling. In their retirement years they enjoyed ski trips to Montana with the Duluth ski group, visiting family and started a new hobby of sailing on Lake Michigan, Puget Sound of Washington and Lake Superior.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Velma Eglinton, his sister Jeanette Sprankle and his beloved wife Betsy Eglinton. He is survived by his children, stepchildren, grandchildren and extended family in Minnesota and Michigan.

Donations in Alex’s name may be sent to Lakeside Presbyterian Church. A private family service was held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, MN, 218-727-3555.
