Myrtle Mary Grubenla

Myrtle Mary Grubenla, 102 of Cloquet passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth. She was born May 26, 1916 to Joseph and Eva Crotteau. Myrt was a lifelong resident of Cloquet and a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She was one of the few remaining survivors of the 1918 Cloquet Fire.

Myrt loved to sew, crochet, knit, embroider, quilt and do all kinds of crafts. She even made her own cedar chest. She loved to bake and cook and made many good meals for everybody.

Myrt was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Norman; daughter, Joanne Johnson; and 14 siblings.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Craig Brouse; grandchildren, Sherri (Dale) Swanson, Kevin (Heather) Brouse, Randy (Cheri) Brouse, Dawn (Bernie) Olson, Amy Grubenla, and Melanie (Alex) Rasskazov; great grandchildren, Casey, Cory, Erika, Lyvia, Taylin, Zander, George, and Julia; and one great great grandson Abel; daughter-in-law, Judy Grubenla; sister, Betty Berglund; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a special thank you for the excellent care given to Myrt by the staff at Viewcrest Health Center and to Hospice for the wonderful care given to Myrt while she was in their care.

Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Friday, January 18, 2019 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Inurnment will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
