Minnesota’s first early teal-only duck hunting season starts Sept. 4 — just over five weeks away — one of the only major changes or additions to the lineups of hunting seasons in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Wisconsin hunters start off on Sept. 1 with a teal and early goose season and hunters can continue to go afield in both states into January for some wild game and even February for small game species like rabbits.

Firearms deer hunters in Minnesota, for areas where permits are available, must apply by Sept. 9 for antlerless tags. Wisconsin hunters can go online to buy antlerless authorizations, where they are available, on Aug. 16. The permits are first-come, first-served and are limited in Northwestern Wisconsin counties.

So mark those calendars. Go scrounge up some ammunition, if you can find it. Practice on those clay targets. Break in those new boots. Despite the heat of summer now, hunting seasons and fall are just a few weeks away. Here are most of this fall's hunting seasons in chronological order:

Nov. 20 to Nov. 28 — Deer, firearms, 300-numbered permit areas, second season.
