Two new COVID-19-related deaths were reported in the Northland Thursday: one in St. Louis County and one in Douglas County. The St. Louis County resident was in the 85-89 age category.

Minnesota reported 14 new deaths Thursday, while Wisconsin had 18 overall.

Minnesota also announced the launch of the Vaccine Connector . Any Minnesota resident, regardless of current eligibility, is encouraged to fill out the questionnaire at vaccineconnector.mn.gov or by calling 833-431-2053. This will be the database used to select Minnesotans for all future statewide vaccination appointments. If you are already pre-registered for a vaccine from the Community Vaccine Program, you do not need to register again.

New cases and seven-day averages in Northland counties:

  • Aitkin — 5; 1.9.
  • Carlton — 5; 2.9.
  • Cook — 0; 0.1.
  • Itasca — 8; 6.7.

  • St. Louis — 10; 19.1.
  • Ashland — 0; 0.1.
  • Bayfield — 1; 0.7.
  • Douglas — 2; 2.

There were a total of 928 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Minnesota and 733 new cases in Wisconsin.

In the Northland, 886 more vaccines were administered, bringing the total of northern Minnesotans with at least one shot of the vaccine to 60,361. About one-third of them have received both doses. Statewide, 12.8% of Minnesotans — or 710,305 — have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 4.7% have received both shots.

Douglas, Bayfield and Ashland counties in Wisconsin reported 1,082 new vaccines administered. About half of those vaccines were second doses. Wisconsin has administered 1,070,199 vaccines in total.

Inclement weather in the southern United States has delayed shipment of the vaccines, Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said Thursday. She said the Moderna vaccine has seen more delays.

The state of Minnesota had to postpone appointments at two community vaccination locations Thursday and six locations for Friday. Additional shipping delays could cause significant operational challenges for both the state sites and for other providers.

The state will continue to update Minnesotans about their appointments and reschedule as information becomes available.
