Another 54 Northland residents have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Tuesday. That's the lowest that number has been since September.
The state of Minnesota reported eight more deaths from COVID-19 and its complications on Tuesday, while Wisconsin reported 54 deaths. None of those deaths were in the Northland.
New cases and seven-day averages in Northeastern Minnesota counties:

- Itasca — 3; 5.
- Koochiching — 2; 2.
- Lake — 0; 4.
- St. Louis — 27; 48.9.
- Ashland — 1; 3.7.
- Bayfield — 0; 3.7.
- Douglas — 9; 8.6.
The new cases were among 727 new cases in Minnesota and 1,301 in Wisconsin.
Vaccine shots have been administered to about another 2,000 Northeastern Minnesotans as of Sunday. Seventy-three of those people received their second dose, completing the two-dose series.

Of those vaccinations, about 1,600 more shots were administered to St. Louis County residents, 250 to Carlton County residents and 140 to Itasca County residents.
More than 6,200 — 27% — of the nearly 23,000 people in Northeastern Minnesota who have received a COVID-19 vaccine are at least 65 years old.
The state of Minnesota updates its vaccine data every day at mn.gov/covid19/vaccine/data with figures from two days prior.
In the last week, another 114,320 vaccines have been administered to Wisconsin residents, according to the state's weekly update. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services does not report the number of vaccines administered in each county.
Hospitalizations from COVID-19 in the region have remained flat. On Monday, the state reported that at one point, 29 people were hospitalized in the region with the illness and three of them were requiring intensive care.
