Northland records 8 deaths from COVID-19

St. Louis County recorded 253 more people who have tested positive and Carlton County recorded 36.

Eight more Northland residents have died from COVID-19.

St. Louis County recorded three of those deaths. One of those people lived in a long-term care or assisted living facility and the other two lived at private residences, according to the county's COVID-19 dashboard. Two were between ages 90 and 94 and one was between ages 75 and 79.

Ninety St. Louis County residents have now died from the disease.

Lake County recorded its second and third deaths; its first death was reported Nov. 14. The people were between ages 80 and 84 and between 90 and 94.

One resident in both Itasca and Aitkin counties died. They were between ages 90 and 94 and 75 and 79, respectively.

Minnesota reported a total of 68 new deaths on Friday and Wisconsin reported 78, one of which was Ashland County. The county's death toll is now eight.

Minnesota reported 6,812 more people who have recently tested positive for the virus and Wisconsin reported 6,473. Of those people, 461 live in the 10-county region of the Northland.

St. Louis County logged nearly half of those cases with 223, its fifth-highest daily case count. In the last seven days, the county has recorded an average of 221 new cases a day, according to the state department of health's daily reports.

Cook and Douglas counties both broke their daily case count record.

Douglas County recorded 83 new cases and has logged an average of 45 new cases a day in the last seven days.

Cook County recorded four new cases — an increase of just one from its previous daily record. The county has a seven-day average of about two new cases a day.

Lake County tied its record case count first set Thursday of 20 more people who tested positive. The county has averaged about 13 new cases a day.
