Nine more Northland lives lost to COVID-19

Nine more people have died from COVID-19 and its complications in the Northland as of Saturday, Dec. 5.

Five of those people lived in St. Louis County, bringing the county's death toll to 131. The five people ranged between the ages of 70 and 94.

Itasca County logged its 25th death. The person was in their late 80s, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

Two more Carlton County residents have died from the illness. One of those people was in their late 50s and the other was in their early 80s. Twenty in Carlton County have now lost their lives to COVID-19.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported the seventh death in Douglas County on Saturday.


Itasca County reached a new daily record of cases reported in a single day. Another 69 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus. In the last seven days the county has experienced an average of 46 new cases a day.

Minnesota reported a total of 75 deaths and 6,337 new cases on Saturday while Wisconsin reported 77 deaths and 4,831 more confirmed infections.
