ST. PAUL — More than 2 million Minnesotans have now received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as measures of public health risk posed
by the virus appear to have peaked, offering a hopeful sign that an unprecedented surge of infections driven by the omicron variant could be on its way down.
The Minnesota Department of Health on Wednesday, Jan. 26, reported a seven-day rolling average positive test rate of 22.9% down from a peak of 23.7% the state reached days before. Wednesday's figure is from Jan. 15, the most recently available date for that metric.
Still, the number of new infections and hospitalizations for COVID-19 remain high. MDH reported 1,553 hospitalizations and 15,572 new cases in its Wednesday report.
