Essentia Health has been awarded just under $1 million in federal funding to expand telehealth services across its clinics, the health care system announced in a news release Tuesday.

Essentia received $981,204 from the Federal Communication Commission for remote monitoring devices, video charts with peripheral cameras, broadband coverage and equipment to use at eight Essentia clinics. The funding comes from a pool of nearly $42 million allocated by the federal government through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.

According to the release, Essentia has conducted more than 588,000 telehealth sessions since March 2020, providing nonemergency care that eliminates transportation barriers and improves rural access.
