COVID-19 cases remain low in Northland

Another 593 Northeastern Minnesota residents have received their first shot of a vaccine, bringing the total number of people vaccinated to more than 15,500.

The states of Minnesota and Wisconsin reported Monday that 91 more Northland residents have tested positive for COVID-19.

New cases and seven-day averages in Northland counties:

  • Aitkin — 4; 3.4.

  • Carlton — 9; 6.9.

  • Cook — 0; 0.4.

  • Itasca — 5; 8.9.

  • Koochiching — 2; 3.3.

  • Lake — 4; 4.7.

  • St. Louis — 48; 49.

  • Ashland — 4; 4.

  • Bayfield — 3; 3.4.

  • Douglas — 12; 14.1.

The new cases were among 980 in Minnesota and 1,083 in Wisconsin. Minnesota reported a total of 12 new deaths and Wisconsin reported 19. None of those who died lived in the Northland.

The number of intensive care beds available in Northeastern Minnesota is 13.7%, according to state data that's updated once every weekday with figures from the previous day.

Available non-ICU beds increased in the region to 21.8%. As of Monday, 55 people were hospitalized in the region with COVID-19, with 10 of them being in an ICU unit.

Another 593 Northeastern Minnesota residents have received their first shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, bringing the total number of people to more than 15,500 in the region. Of those people, more than 3,700 have completed their vaccine series of two doses.

The total percentage of vaccinated residents by county:

  • Aitkin — 4.1%.

  • Carlton — 5.6%.

  • Cook — 7%.

  • Itasca — 4.3%.

  • Koochiching — 3%.

  • Lake — 4.7%.

  • St. Louis — 4.8%.

Minnesota updates its vaccine data every day with data numbers from a few days prior. Wisconsin updates its vaccine data weekly on Tuesday afternoons.
