COVID-19 cases grow by 30 in Northeastern Minnesota

More than 58,600 residents in Northeastern Minnesota have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The seven counties of Northeastern Minnesota logged 30 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths Tuesday.

Minnesota health officials reported a total of 456 new cases and two deaths statewide.

New cases and seven-day averages in Northeastern Minnesota counties:

  • Aitkin — 0; 1.1.
  • Carlton — 2; 2.3.
  • Cook — 0; 0.1.
  • Itasca — 8; 6.9.
  • Koochiching — 0; 0.4.
  • Lake — 5; 2.9.
  • St. Louis — 15; 19.7.

Another 600 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered to Northeastern Minnesota residents, bringing the total number of those vaccinated in the region to 58,600. One-third of those people have completed the two-dose series.

Nearly 44% of Northeastern Minnesota residents ages 65 and older have received at least one dose.

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 in Northeastern Minnesota remain flat. On Monday, 15 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in the region. Only two of those people were in an intensive care unit, according to state data.

At the peak of hospitalizations in late November, at least 50 people were in an ICU with COVID-19.
