The total cases of COVID-19 in the Northland's 10 counties was the lowest this week since the week of Aug. 13-20. The region recorded 136 cases between May 28 and June 3.

Minnesota Department of Health reported on Thursday 238 cases and 10 deaths statewide. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 185 new cases and 10 deaths.

Of the 136 new cases in the Northland this week, 49 were in St. Louis County.

New cases in St. Louis County cities May 28-June 3:

  • Duluth — 30.
  • Virginia — 9.

All other communities in the county logged fewer than five new cases in the last week.

As of Thursday, the county's seven-day testing positivity rate was 1.5%, a decline of 0.6% from last week. The county conducted 3,306 COVID-19 tests between May 28 and the afternoon of June 3.

Carlton County

Carlton County logged 17 new cases of COVID-19 in the last week. Those new cases came from 561 tests, putting this week's testing positivity rate at 3%. This is up 1.6% from last week and the highest positivity rate in the region. However, any positivity rate under 5% is not considered to be widespread community transmission of the coronavirus.

  • Cloquet — 12.
  • Barnum, Esko — 2 each.
  • Moose Lake, Wrenshall, Wright — 1 each.

According to COVID-19 vaccine data reported by Minnesota and Wisconsin on Thursday, 482 more Northlanders became fully vaccinated and 173 people received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. In the Northland, there are now 212,647 people with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, or 53% of the population, and 49% of the region is fully vaccinated.
