2 St. Louis County residents die of COVID-19

St. Louis and Douglas counties had the highest amounts of new cases Sunday.

Two more St. Louis county residents have died from COVID-19 and its complications as of Sunday, Dec. 20. Both people were between the ages of 85-95, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. St. Louis County now has a death toll of 179.

No other Northland counties reported new deaths Sunday. Statewide, Minnesota reported 70 new deaths and Wisconsin reported 18 according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

St. Louis County recorded 100 more people have tested positive for COVID-19. In the last seven days the county has had an average of 98 new cases a day.

New cases and seven-day averages in other counties:

  • Aitkin — 10; 7.
  • Carlton — 17; 18.
  • Cook —0; 0.4.
  • Itasca — 16; 24.
  • Koochiching — 4; 5.
  • Lake — 1; 3.
  • St. Louis — 100; 98.
  • Ashland — 4; 10.
  • Bayfield — 5; 9.
  • Douglas —30; 37.

The state of Minnesota reported 2,705 new cases and Wisconsin reported 1,826 new cases Sunday.
