A damaged sailboat that broke loose from its mooring outside the breakwater of McQuade Safe Harbor finally was removed Wednesday from where it washed ashore more than two months ago.
Probably no one was happier to see the wreckage removed than Victor Ulmer, who owns the property where the vessel came to rest and whose home overlooked the wreckage. Ulmer said the owner of the boat had tried repeatedly but unsuccessfully to recover it himself.
"I was concerned it might be there indefinitely," he said. "I'm definitely glad it's gone."
The tug Maxine Thompson assisted in refloating and towing the sailboat to McQuade Harbor, where it was pulled from the water.
