The St. Louis County Public Works Department advises motorists that construction of a new Twig J-turn will begin Monday, resulting in temporary lane closures on U.S. Highway 53 at its intersection with Industrial Road (aka County State Aid Highway 7).
When the project is complete, it will have no effect on people driving Highway 53. But motorists traveling Industrial Road who want to cross 53 or turn left onto it will instead need to turn right and travel a short distance before making a U-turn to cross into the other lane before proceeding.
J-turns are believed to improve intersection safety by eliminating the potential for T-bone collisions.
Work on the reconfigured intersection is expected to be completed in October.
Motorists are asked to slow down and pay attention when passing through work zones.
