Crews will begin making improvements to Merritt Park in Duluth's Denfeld neighborhood Thursday.

Improvements will include installing a drain tile to improve the playground's drainage; replacing the sand around the playground with engineered wood; and installing a portable toilet enclosure and a new fenced sport area for basketball and pickleball, according to a news release from the city.

The construction is expected to take 10 weeks. The improvements were based on recommendations from the St. Louis River Corridor Neighborhood Parks Mini Master Plan that the Duluth City Council approved in 2016.
