Work begins Monday on Highway 35 near Superior

A stretch of Wisconsin Highway 35 south of Superior will be closed starting Monday as the state Department of Transportation begins a summer construction project.

A stretch of Wisconsin Highway 35 south of Superior will be closed starting Monday as the state Department of Transportation begins a summer construction project.

The work includes excavation to remove and replace the Stony Brook box culvert and to repair erosion caused by high water in 2012 under the Nemadji River bridge.

The culvert replacement will close the highway to traffic.

Southbound traffic will be detoured using Douglas County Highway C east to Highway A, then south on Highway A to Highway B, then west on Highway B back to HIghway 35. Northbound traffic will be directed on the same route in reverse.

Only local traffic will be permitted in the work zone on Highway 35. No traffic will be able to cross Stony Brook during the construction; traffic will be able to use the Nemadji River bridge.
