A woman is in critical condition after being shot in the head, and the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office today said her boyfriend apparently was the shooter.

The incident was reported to 911 shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday in the Town of Round Lake.

According to the sheriff's office, Kerry Stevenson, 52, of Winnifield, La., walked into Ray Jay's Restaurant screaming and with blood on his clothing.

Staff said it had seen Stevenson in the restaurant earlier in the evening with his girlfriend, a 48-year-old woman from Tonawanda, N.Y. Because the woman wasn't with him at the time, staff became concerned and called 911. Sawyer County Deputies and Emergency Medical Services responded and a helicopter ambulance was dispatched.

According to officers, Stevenson told them he had discharged a handgun in or near his truck and that his girlfriend was shot at Treeland's Resort off of County Highway B.
