A 22-year-old man died from injuries suffered in a snowmobile crash late Friday night in Bayfield County.

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office said the crash was reported to authorities about 11:43 p.m. and happened about four miles east of Iron River, at the intersection of Fire Tower Road and Forest Road 242.

The victim, from Bryant in northeastern Wisconsin, reportedly was snowmobiling with three friends when he decided to move to the front of the group, the sheriff's office said in a news release. A short time later, he lost control while trying to negotiate the corner from Fire Tower Road to Forest Road 242 and hit a tree.

Ambulance crews initiated CPR and other life-saving techniques, but the victim died from his injuries. His name has not been released pending notification of family.

Iron River Ambulance, Ashland paramedics and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also responded to the scene.
