This morning, winds howled out of the east in the Twin Ports, gusting to more than 50 mph, causing trees to fall on power lines and small outages across the area.

By this afternoon, the front had passed and winds were howling again to more than 40 mph, this time out of the southwest. Several trees were reported down this afternoon, and fire departments and Minnesota Power crews were busy responding to downed lines.

The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a wind advisory until sunset, saying high winds could down trees and power lines and buffet high-profile vehicles.

Meanwhile, the threat of most severe weather and heavy rain has moved out of the area for the time being. A tornado watch has expired for the region. A 50 percent chance of rain Saturday night diminishes to just 30 percent on Sunday.

A tornado was reported to have touched down near Park Rapids after 9 a.m. today, and tornado warnings were issued at mid-morning south of Bemidji. Extensive damage was reported across Hubbard County, where the Associated Press reports some damaged homes but no major injuries.
