college football
Minnesota Duluth opens its home schedule against Southwest Minnesota State at 7 p.m. Thursday at Malosky Stadium. The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 with a 47-18 victory over Missouri Western State on Saturday. Thursday's game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net North (Charter Cable Ch. 37) and CBS College Sports Network. It marks the first time UMD has been on regional television since 1982.

A full slate of high school football games is scheduled for Friday, with the lone matchup between local unbeatens being Esko's game at Two Harbors. All three Duluth public schools head into the weekend undefeated. Denfeld, which hosts St. Thomas Academy at 7:30 p.m. at Public Schools Stadium, is the only one of the three to play at home.
INLINE marathon
The 13th NorthShore Inline Marathon and accompanying half-marathon are Saturday morning along the Grandma's Marathon course from Two Harbors to Harbor Drive in Duluth. The elite men's marathon race starts at 7:30 a.m. and elite women at 7:37 a.m. to lead North America's largest 26.2-mile inline event. The half-marathon mass start is at 6:45 a.m. Last year's winning marathon time was 1 hour, 4 minutes and 46.9 seconds.
