Parts of Minnesota were hit by severe thunderstorms for the second consecutive day, and a tornado warning was issued at mid-afternoon for the Alexandria area.
That line of storms was heading northeast toward the Brainerd lakes region and could move into the Northland this evening.
The National Weather Service in Duluth has forecast a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms for most of the Northland this afternoon, tonight, Friday and Friday night.
There were no immediate reports of a tornado sighting near Alexandria, but at least one tornado touched down and caused extensive damage in Austin, Minn., on Wednesday evening.
While rain has been in Duluth's forecast much of this week, almost none has fallen. Duluth is 1.3 inches below normal for rainfall for June and 3.3 inches shy since April 1.
