The summer of 2012 turned out to be our region's warmest in recorded history. Now that Labor Day has passed, though, so will the summery temperatures. A cooldown is expected today in the wake of the cold front that brought some towns thunderstorms last night.

This morning, there still is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. In the afternoon, however, higher pressure will bring back a clear sky. The system is coming from Canada, so temperatures will drop, with northwest winds of 10-15 mph.

The cooler air will keep on coming Thursday. Highs then will dip into the 60s. This trend will last for a week. Thursday also will host a slight chance for afternoon rain, but after that, dry conditions return and persist.

FIVE-DAY FORECAST
Wednesday: Partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance for morning rain. High 73, low 49.
