Saturday marked the first day since October that Duluth reached 80 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth.
The warm temperatures came earlier than usual for the city. May 23rd is the average date that Duluth hits 80 degrees or warmer for the first time each year, said Meteorologist Linda Engebretson said. That calculation factors in data dating as far back as 1875.
In 2020, Duluth reached 80 degrees for the first time on May 27 and the earliest the city has done so was on March 28 in 1946.
The following cities in the Northland also hit or passed 80 degrees on Saturday: Ashland, Cloquet, Hibbing, Silver Bay, Solon Springs, Superior and Two Harbors.
After Saturday, Engebretson said temperatures in the Northland are expected to be much cooler for the next several days.
"Hopefully people got outside today," Engebretson said.
