Light snow, freezing drizzle expected in Northland this evening

Light snow and freezing drizzle are forecast to continue across much of the Northland this evening, causing slippery roads and sidewalks.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until 10 p.m. for southern and central St. Louis, Douglas, Carlton, Pine, Lake and Cook counties.

"Motorists have reported icing on windshields in the Duluth and Cloquet areas," the Weather Service reported at about 5:30 p.m. "As temperatures fall tonight the freezing drizzle should change to light snow."

A blast of arctic air is forecast to move into the Northland for Christmas, with high temperatures expected to remain below zero on the holiday.
