As a powerful storm swept through the Northland Monday morning, strong winds downed trees, limbs and caused power outages.

Minnesota Power reported 21 separate outages affecting 1,520 customers as of 10: 15 a.m. Power disruptions were reported in many neighborhoods, including Woodland, Duluth Heights, Lakeside and Lester Park. Other areas impacted include Rice Lake and the townships of Akely, Normana, Alborn, Grand Lake, Meadowlands, Birch Lake, Duluth, Industrial, Long Prairie and Thomson.

Lake Country Power reported 18 outages affecting 1,156 customers.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the area until 3 p.m. this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The system could produce strong gusts, heavy rain and hail.
