The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch on Friday afternoon for a broad area of counties in north-central Minnesota and northern Wisconsin.
The warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Friday. It includes Carlton, Pine and Aitkin counties and Wisconsin's Douglas, Bayfield and Burnett counties.
The weather conditions in these counties are favorable for developing tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. The storms are "likely" to produce scattered large hail and damaging winds, and may also produce wind gusts up to 80 mph, torrential rainfall and tornadoes, according to the weather service.
The weather service cautions taking shelter if a "storm threatens your area."
