The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a winter storm watch for parts of the Northland as a storm system may bring snowfall in excess of 6 inches to the region on Monday.
The watch, issued Saturday afternoon, covers all of Northwestern Wisconsin as well as Pine and southern Aitkin counties in Minnesota from Monday morning through late Monday night.
Winter storm watches also are in effect farther to the south, including the Twin Cities, where snowfall of 8 to 12 inches is possible. The snow is expected to be of the wet, heavy variety.
Duluth and areas to the north, including the Iron Range, are not presently covered by any winter storm watches or advisories but some accumulating snow is possible on Monday. Those areas are forecast to be on the northern edge of the storm system, so any variation in the storm track will have a great effect on how much - if any - snow falls.
