The National Weather Service in Marquette, Mich., has confirmed that a weak tornado touched down Friday morning in Ontonagon, Mich., on the western Upper Peninsula.
The tornado was reported at about 8:15 a.m. local time from a series of storms that had moved across the Northland earlier Friday morning. According to the Weather Service, it first touched down at the River Pines RV Park and Campground, and then moved northeast across the town, lifting on the east side of the Ontonagon Golf Course.
The path was estimated at 3/4 mile, and was about 125 yards wide at its widest point. Peak winds were estimated at 85 mph, making the tornado a strong EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita scale.
Damage from the twister included snapped and uprooted trees, snapped power poles, minor roof damage, some structural damage to a garage, and a flipped boat. No one was injured from the tornado.
