Northland weather information, photos and history

As I watched some videos posted earlier of wicked waves in Grand Marais as a result of the big fall storm, I thought about how I had been up in Grand Marais last fall on a trip with my brother, and we had walked out to the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater on a quiet, calm evening.

I looked back at my photos from that trip, and it turns out that it was exactly one year ago – Oct. 27, 2009 – when we were in Grand Marais. Here’s what the lighthouse and breakwater looked like then:

Wow – what a difference. Watching those waves crash in, it’s hard to imagine that calm, beautiful evening of one year ago.
