A winter storm warning (pink) for 4-8 inches or more of snow has been issued through Thursday morning for parts of Cook, Lake, St. Louis, Carlton, Douglas and Bayfield counties near Lake Superior. A winter weather advisory (purple) has been issued for other parts of the Northland for up to 5 inches of snow. National Weather Service graphic.

Lake Superior could set a new monthly high water mark for May if above normal rainfall continues to fall. The big lake is now 15 inches above normal for early May and 9 inches above the level at this time last year.
