Things were getting back to normal Saturday in Grand Marais after more than 5 inches of rain fell in the area Thursday night and Friday.

About 5.24 inches of rain fell in a four- to six-hour period, according to the National Weather Service office in Duluth, leading to swollen rivers, soggy basements and dangerous road conditions in some areas.

By Saturday afternoon, some of that had changed.

"There's no standing water on any roadways, parking lots, anything," said John Amren, who on Friday used a canoe to ferry customers across the 4 feet of water that had accumulated in front of his shop, Superior Coastal Sports.

Reminders of the flooding, though, were still sticking around.

"There's a lot of debris, a lot of mud everywhere," he said.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office said most of the area roadways, including state Highway 61, were open, though it still advised caution because of extensive debris.
