A break in a 16-inch water main Tuesday interrupted service to areas in West Duluth and Gary and forced two school cancellations.
The break near Grand Avenue and 46th Avenue West was discovered about 6 a.m. By about 9 a.m., city workers had restored service to all customers in West Duluth and as far west as Gary-New Duluth except for Faith Haven senior living apartments, three houses and the Taco John restaurant. Repairs continued into the evening.
The water main break forced the cancellation of classes at Denfeld High School and Laura MacArthur Elementary School, after-school activities at both schools, and Kid Connection and adult education classes at Laura MacArthur.
The Public Works and Utilities Department had not completed its investigation into the cause of the break as of late Tuesday afternoon.
